Immigrant

Guest Performance: Det Dramatiske Udgangspunkt and V-Effekten (Copenhagen)

A scenic collage about refugees, aliens and oppression - and the belief in change!

With texts by Bertolt Brecht

Monday September 7th 2015 on a motorway bridge over E47 a little outside Rødby. One of the men on the bridge leans over the edge and spits.

The book Refugee Talks by playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht (Gyldendal, 1966, translated from German by Ivan Malinovski) forms the framework of the performance that focuses on today's refugee debate and the fear of foreigners. Through an assembly of narratives, the Immigrant creates a kaleidoscopic image of life in which the concept of 'patriotism' must be considered by both parties - both on and under the bridge.

Refugees are met with resistance and also kindness - this is what we experience in Denmark today. And that's what Bertolt Brecht also went through when he came to the country as a refugee in the 30s and lived in exile in Svendborg. In this unwavering position, where both home and future are lost, he wrote the dialogue Refugee Talks and several of his famous poems.

The V-Effect is an ensemble consisting of two German actresses Katrin Weisser and Xenia Noetzelmann, who have both lived in Copenhagen and learned Danish language. They have seen it as a necessary task to take Brecht's texts and place them into the present situation. Bent Fabricius-Bjerre has written new music for the performance and performs it live on the accordion.
