The 9th Transit Festival will take place at Odin Teatret 14-23 June 2019 with the theme: HOPE IN ACTION – THEATRE, WOMEN, WILL. The theme has been chosen with the intention of giving inspiration through visions, experience and the active determination that guides women in their theatre work to struggle against the violence, indifference and exploitation that surrounds us. And to want to present new possibilities, new paths, new voices. Examples of the autonomous and vulnerable presence of women in performance, acting, composing, directing, teaching, writing, singing, storytelling will make up the programme of the festival. This is the legacy that we pass on to younger generations: the will (testament) we write with our actions with the will (resolve) to do something about our hopes.
Katrine Faber, Teater Viva, who has participated previously in Transit Festivals has decided to make a sister festival in Århus in 2019, which will take place in the beginning of June, taking advantage of some of the international artists visiting Denmark and preparing interventions which will be shown afterwards in Holstebro.
In September 2018, Odin Teatret and Teater Viva will collaborate to realize an event in preparation of the two festivals in June 2019, called Women in Theatre; Silences and Voices.
In a time of crisis, disillusionment, corruption, autocracy and war, the voice of women can give hope to the world in building our future. This requires engagement and responsibility. Women in theatre and music have learned to break through their silence, speaking up in the public space, finding the courage to present hidden personal questions, discovering one’s own voice in song and text, conquering techniques to share the stories that need to be told.
Silences and Voices gives the opportunity over two days to participate in workshops with very experienced practitioners from different fields of vocal work (Parvathy Baul from India, Julia Varley from UK, Katrine Faber from Denmark, Brigitte Cirla from France) and take part in a symposium “WOMENS’ VOICES: BREAKING SILENCE – NURTURING VOICE” with talks of women from different artistic and social fields. The talks will focus on how women have broken the silence historically imposed upon them at the same time as nurturing the voice, that speaks the personal, delicate and vulnerable story of us all. A voice that doesn’t necessarily need to use the same rhetoric as everyone else to be heard over the general noise, but choses other ways to be effective.
In this Pre-festival in September ‘18, the invited artists and speakers at the symposium will be Parvathy Baul (India), Brigitte Cirla (France), Julia Varley (UK/IT), Katrine Faber (DK), Anne Middelboe (DK), Lotte Farup (DK) and Kitt Johnson (DK).
There will be a program of workshops, performances and a symposium.
The workshops will turn around the theme of voice: to have a voice and how to use it; technically and more metaphorical speaking to be a part of the world. How do our work and voice reflect the world; your world, our world?
We will like to attract women artists and all kind of artists, men and women of all kinds as participants in the festival. We will do a special effort to invite young women and their voices.
In this Pre-festival we will tell about the coming activities in 2019. Katrine will invite women to join a group, that through the winter 18/19 will be preparing a performance event on the festivals in 2019.
